| Description | The main component of the archive is a collection of over 300 photographs and a photograph album relating to works by Hardiman. They consist of photographs of drawings, maquettes, studies, source material, sculptures being worked on in the studio, record shots of finished piece, unveiling ceremonies, and personal photographs. There are various papers including personal papers with biographical information; papers concerning war damage to Hardiman's studio, 1940-1941; correspondence about sculptures and exhibitions, 1939-1951; and papers concerning Hardiman's work after his death. There are a number of works on paper and three sketchbooks that include drawings for the equestrian statue of Earl Haig in Whitehall, London, 1929-1937, twenty-one sketches from life and studies of horses, and seven plans for various monuments. Further material consists of two diplomas from the Royal Society of British Sculptors; an ivory token admitting Hardiman to the Royal Academy School of Sculpture, 1915; a collection of press cuttings and publications relating to his work, especially for his architectural sculpture; and a collection of postcards of sculpture probably used as source material. |
