TitleAnnan's correspondence related to a commission for Tuxford County Secondary School, Nottingham.
Date1958
DescriptionFile of correspondence related to Annan's tiled mural at Tuxford County Secondary School, Nottingham. The majority of correspondence is between Annan and Alan Goodman of the City Architect's Department discussing the design of the mural and the glazing of the tiles, which was undertaken by Annan in her studio kiln. The file includes a number of incomplete draft letters from Annan to Goodman, possibly written in Tennant's hand, either written in response to Goodman's letters or notifying him of severe delays with the project. In one draft letter Annan writes 'although I am working practically day and night to get this done, it is quite impossible to go any faster' (/10). In Goodman's last letter to Annan it seems that the Councillor's reaction to the mural was unfavourable, writing 'I won’t trouble you with the County Councillor reaction to it – I got away with it by saying that it enhanced the importance of the centre of the school, which it does – it’s a jolly good mural' (/17). One letter features a series of calculations written on the reverse in pencil, presumably as means of calculating the number of tiles required (/5).
