| Description | Correspondence related to works commissioned by the London County Council for schools originally held in a manila folder marked 'L.C.C'. The majority of material in the file relates to Annan's panel at Cayley Primary School, London. However the file also includes five letters from Maurice Wheatley, the Senior Art Inspector for the London County Council, on a variety of subjects, including Annan's commission at Highbury Quadrant School (/1-5). The material related to Cayley Primary School includes letters postponing the commission until the completion of redecorating work at the school (/6-7); correspondence related to Annan's fee for the work, including a manuscript letter by Maurice Wheatley suggesting that the fee should be higher than £400 and a manuscript letter from Anna accepting the revised sum written in [Tennant's?] hand. (/8-11); letters related to Annan's maquette and its display at various meetings (/12-14); papers related to the drawing up of a formal agreement between Annan and the London County Council, including a signed draft agreement (/15-18); insurance papers related to the glass piece created for the school, including Annan's insurance policy and certificate (/19-21); a carbon copy receipt for £650 (/22); and a letter from the headmaster, R. | Notes | The panel at Cayley Primary School, made from large textured glass, was uncovered in 2008 after it had been concealed under plyboard since the 1970s. The piece was commissioned by the London County Council as part of their post-war Patronage of the Arts Scheme. Maurice Wheatley played a pivotal role in scheme, often mediating between artists and schools. |
