Description | The mermaid fountain, 'Miranda', was made for the Lockheed Company for the Festival of Britain Pleasure Gardens, 1951. The papers include one sheet of four sketches for the sculpture; twenty-four photographs showing Fleischmann, the woman he used as his model and various stages of the making of the sculpture, 1951-1953; forty-eight press cuttings, 1950-1991; and five souvenir brochures and articles on the fountain and the Festival of Britain, 1951. Two maquettes for the sculpture are in Leeds Museums & Galleries' sculpture collection (Acc. Nos. 1994.0036-37). |
