Title | Papers related to 'The Big O' |
Date | c.1990-1991 |
Description | Papers related to Dye's site-specific installation 'The Big O' originally held in a blue document wallet marked 'Riverside and Reviews'. The file includes a large bundle of sketches, notes and plans for the installation, including gallery plans and sketches for early, unrealised ideas [/1-78]. Some sketches are similar to those produced by Dye during the run up to his solo exhibition of installation and sculpture at The Showroom, London in 1990. The sketches are accompanied by a bundle of papers related to Jean Fisher's catalogue essay 'Devices and Desires' originally intended to accompany the exhibition. This includes Jean Fisher's draft typescript text with emendations by Dye and a set of 'notes on the text' by Dye, which describe his artistic practice and identify recurrent themes and motifs that link individual works [/79-90]. Includes detailed cross-referenced lists of works with their shared themes and a detailed description of 'The Big O'. |
Notes | The exhibition catalogue, funded by the Henry Moore Foundation and written by Jean Fisher, was to have been a review of Dye's career up to 1991. However, the Riverside Studios failed to publish the catalogue following a communication issue between the gallery and the designer. Jean Fisher's text was later reprinted as an essay in her authored work 'Vampire in the Text: Narratives of Contemporary Art', London: Institute of International Visual Arts, 2003. |
The large volume of reviews noted on the file title have been removed and placed in 2016.H/4 for ease of production in the search room. |
