Title | Presentation board titled 'Cancelled Location' |
Date | [c.1970] |
Description | Presentation board titled 'Cancelled Location' featuring six black and white photographs of the work in a studio setting. A typescript label provides a brief description of the work. The first image shows the work in its entirety: a diagonal sectional of mirror taped to a wall above an incomplete mirror on the floor; a photograph positioned under a large sheet of glass is placed some distance away. The remaining images show the reflections formed when the diagonal section of mirror is reflected in the incomplete mirror on the floor. Only one photograph shows a decipherable reflection: an image of an 'X' (referred to as both a point of 'location' and 'cancellation') formed when viewed from a specific point in the room. A copy of this photograph is located underneath the large sheet of glass. However, the spectator is prevented from ever forming this image themselves as access to the location is impeded by the glass. The final four images show the reflections in the incomplete mirror when viewed from the available positions at each side of the glass. Includes a holograph label on reverse marked 'David M. Dye'. |
Notes | The work was created whilst Dye was a student St. Martins School of Art. |
