TitlePresentation board titled '3 Spectator Locations'
Date1970
DescriptionPresentation board titled '3 Spectator Locations' featuring three black and white photographs of the work in a studio setting. The bottom right of the board is marked 'David Dye 1970'. A typescript label provides a brief description of the work and notes that it 'takes as its starting point the position of the spectator'. A large photograph - made from two images collaged together - shows a room with three mirrors on the floor and tape on the walls, mirrors and floor. An arrow marked 'N' points to a notice on the wall giving the spectator instructions to locate three points from which an 'X' is reflected in one of the mirrors. Once found, the spectator is judged to be occupying one of the three 'locations' referred to in the title of the work. Two smaller photographs - labelled '1' and '2' in black ink - show two separate reflections of an 'X'. These images represent two of the positions from which the reflections can be viewed. An image of the third position is not shown as the location is obscured by a wall and is inaccessible to the spectator. A typescript label on the reverse shows that the presentation board was submitted by Dye as a testimonial for admission into the Royal College of Art.
NotesThe work was undertaken by Dye whilst a student at St. Martins School of Art.
