Title | Photographs of 'Confine |
Date | c.1971-1972 |
Description | Two unlabelled colour photographs of the performance work 'Confine' (c.1971-72) in [rehearsal at the ICA, London in 1972?]. The photographs show Dye in a gallery setting pointing a projector at a large white screen. In the first of the images he is standing some distance from the screen, and in the second, he is close to it. In both instances, a rectangle in black ink has been drawn in the centre of the projected frame. Both photographs are signed by Dye on the reverse in black ink. They are also marked '1' and '3' in pencil. Accompanied by a black and white image of 'Confine' in rehearsal in a [domestic setting?]. The image shows Dye holding a projector close to a white wall; a projected image of the artist is framed within a black rectangle on the wall. The reverse of the photograph is marked 'David Dye' in pencil. |
Notes | 'Confine' was first performed at the ICA, London in 1972. In performance, Dye attempted to keep a previously filmed photograph of himself 'confined' to a frame drawn on a wall. |
