Title | Photographs of 'Screen |
Date | c.1971-1972 |
Description | Eight unlabelled colour photographs of the performance work 'Screen' (c.1971-72) in [rehearsal?]. The photographs show Dye in a well-lit room holding a projector close to a cine screen covered in a white sheet. Part of the sheet has been cut away to reveal the top left part of the screen. Each image shows the projector focused on a different section of the sheet. Dye has marked the areas illuminated by the projector with ink to delineate the frame beneath. Five images have been numbered '1' to '6' in blue ink on the reverse, though '5' is missing. Accompanied by black and white proofs cut from a contact sheet. |
Notes | 'Screen' was first performed at the ICA, London in 1972. In performance, a film image of a cine screen frame was projected over a sheet covering the same screen. Dye may have inked in the frame on the photographs to see how the piece would look in performance. |
