TitlePhotographs of 'Doorway Drawing'
Date1981
DescriptionBlack and white photographs of Dye's anamorphic work 'Doorway Drawing' originally held in a manila envelope marked, 'Doorway Drawing 81'. Includes photographs taken from various angles of a drawing painted in sections on the door and walls of an unidentified room. Only the photographs taken from a certain angle reveal the image of a copulating couple. Includes a photograph of a catalogue entry for the image marked on the reverse in black ink, 'From Extended Photography Catalogue 1982 (Drawing on door and wall, photographed)' [/1]. Also include sthree stills of a copulating couple taken from a pornographic film used as the basis for the drawing [2-4]; a contact sheet with images of the work [/12]; and a large image of the work mounted on white card with a typescript label on the reverse [/14]. Some images are taped together with masking tape.
NotesAn anamorphic image only reveals itself viewed from a particular perspective or when viewed through a transforming optical device, such as a mirror. 'Doorway Drawing' can only be viewed at a certain point where sections of the drawing - painted on two walls, the outside of a half-open door and reflected in a mirror - come together to form an image of a copulating couple.

The work featured in the 'Extended Photography' conference curated by Peter Weibel at the 5th International Biennial in Vienna in 1981.
