Title | Photographs of works undertaken at St. Martin's School of Art |
Date | c.1968-1972 |
Description | A large collection of black and white photographs originally held in a large padded envelope marked in black ink, 'David Dye. Student Photos (damaged). St Martin's. 69-72'. The collection includes photographs of early works made whilst a student, some related to Dye's experimentation with 'devices' that concentrated on, and determined, the position of the spectator. Few images are annotated with information concerning the date and/or title of the work. Where images are annotated, the text has been recorded in the description. For ease of production, the photographs have been placed into two volumes. |
Notes | Although the covering dates of the envelope suggest that Dye attended St Martin’s School of Art between 1969 and 1972, these dates may be incorrect. Little consistent biographical information about his time at the school can be ascertained, with different covering dates given in various exhibition catalogues.
The photographs have been arranged in chronological order. However, as few items are dated, the ordering is approximate rather than definitive. |
Related Material | See 2008.9 for Dye's notebooks used whilst a student at St Martin's School of Art. These contain some drawings and notes for works feautred in the file. |
