Description | Two untitled black and white photographs of an early/alternative version of 'A for Absence' (1970) in a studio setting. The first photograph shows two lengths of painted dowelling balanced on a square piece of mirror. The mirror is leant against a wall and a viewing position is marked in chalk on the floor. The accompanying image shows the letter 'A' reflected in the mirror when the work is viewed from the chalked point. Dye's reflection is also visible in the mirror. Dye created four other 'variations' of the work, photographing each different configuration. These images were mounted on a presentation board entitled 'A for Absence (4 variations on a theme)'. Although very similar, these images [/88-89] are not represented on the board, suggesting that this variation may have been an early, experimental version by Dye. |
