Date | 1986-1987 |
Description | Blue document wallet marked 'Late 1986 - Late 1987' containing drawings, notes and sketches in pencil and ink. Much of the material - mostly of mirrored devices - represents an exploration of ideas by Dye with relatively little identifiable material related to realised works. The imagery, themes and motifs of some sketches echo those found in 2016.1/B/12, particularly those associated with heraldry and anatomy. The majority of sketches are untitled, but the folder contains a small volume of material related to the following identified works: 'Tattoo' (1986) [/2-4], 'Line of Least Resistance' (1987) [/6] and 'You Can't Take It With You' (1988) [/117-121]. The file also contains a pencil draft proposal for 'You Can't Take It With You', dated 1987 [/5] and a page of notes for an early incarnation of 'Pump' (1988), dated May 1987 [71]. Also includes two sets of handmade stencils for the letters 'S', 'E' and 'X'. |
Notes | The original order of the file has been retained.
According to the exhibition catalogue for 'Under the Sign of Saturn', Nigel Greenwood Gallery, London in 1987, Dye exhibited 'near-heraldic' devices, suggesting that some items may be preparatory work for the exhibition.
