Description | Small black sketchbook marked on the inside front cover with Dye's name and London address and inscribed, 'started July 1975'. Contains pencil and ink notes, sketches, diagrams and text towards realised and unrealised works. Includes material related to works exhibited at Dye's solo exhibition at the Robert Self Gallery, London and Newcastle in 1976, including 'Target Practice' (c.1976) 'Mystery Love Story' (c.1976), 'The Kiss' (c.1976), 'Throwing Light On' (1976) and 'Ends'. Also includes titled sketches and notes for 'Division of Labour', 'Commercial Break' (1973; 1975), 'Dance', 'Viewfinder', 'Lip Synch' and 'Identify'. It is not known how many of these latter works were fully realised by Dye. Additional material includes sketches of pyramids and fans; sketched gallery plans for the positioning of works at the Robert Self Gallery; and ‘to-do’ lists, personal reminders and contact details. Analytical commentary by Dye, in which he interrogates and critiques his ideas and artistic practice, is included in varying detail throughout the notebook. |
