DescriptionScript, notes, photographs and associated papers originally held in a green document wallet labelled by Cripps ‘Frills and Spills.’ The document wallet features additional annotations made by members of the Stephen Cripps Trust regarding the contents of the file. Includes original notes, sketches and drawings by Cripps [/1-21]; a typescript notice inviting students to be involved in the making and performing of ‘Frills and Spills’ [/22]; a typescript notice inviting cast and interested parties to a screening of a film featured in the play [/23]; a complete script [/24]; a partial script annotated in blue ink by Cripps with sound directions [/25]; two copies of cast and crew lists [/26-27]; black and white performance photographs, accompanied by explanatory notes of the images written in an unidentified hand, possibly a later addition by the Stephen Cripps Trust [/28-58]; black and white contact sheets of performance images, some annotated in gold and silver ink in an unidentified hand [/59-65]; photocopies of material held in the file, including sketches, notes, cast lists, provisional stage settings and performance photographs [/66-106]; and a letter from the Arnolfini Gallery, Bristol expressing an interest in watching the performance [107]. A number of images have been annotated on the reverse in ink by Cripps with scene numbers and descriptions. The images also include pencil annotations made in unidentified hands.
Notes‘Frills and Spills’ was a large-scale scripted performance written and directed by Cripps as part of his degree show at Corsham. It was performed by the Corsham sculpture students and incorporated machines, sound and film on a myriad of stages located throughout the college.
