Description | A black and white contact sheet and three strips of corresponding negatives of various studio experiments at Butlers Wharf. Incudes images of Cripps dressed in an asbestos suit; a [pendulum] device made using a motor arm; a seated Cripps [tearing up paper] with large strips of burning paper behind him; and various lamps made from salvaged objects. The negatives were originally held in a storage envelope marked in pencil in an unidentified hand ‘2 [circled] in’ with a list of negative numbers on the inside cover. The contact sheet is marked in silver ink, ‘2 [circled] in. F’. A white label on the contact sheer is marked in black ink in an unidentified hand ‘studio sheet 2 [underlined] asbestos suit wharf, plus pendulum on lit screen for movie (?super 8) burning bits of paper. This set up was used for the Acme ’78, flysheet. Ref: a drawing of Revolving screen’. Two small annotated labels mark out two images for potential publication, though the images were not published in the Stephen Cripps Monograph. |
