DescriptionHardback black sketchbook with personalised blue stamp on the inside front cover. Containing sketches, notes, and designs particularly towards maquettes, sculptures, commissions, assemblages, gallery exhibitions, freestanding and serial installations, presentation methodologies and sequences, fabrication ideas, bronze castings, wood carvings and railway sleeper carvings. Imagery including funerary sculpture and architecture, Italian ecclesiastical architecture and sculpture, interior and exterior spaces, architecture, funerary urns and tombs, columns and monument plinths supporting various imagery, upturned tables, altar pieces, lighthouses, pillboxes, industrial chimneys, observatories, irregular forms, clouds, 'Kits Coty' and thrones. Keir Smith references various locations, including 'Portland Bill Lighthouse', 'Lewisham Library' and 'Like Battersea Power Station'; also 'open fronted casket or glass fronted casket', 'Polyptych', 'Nash Bank', 'Composite building', 'The Virgin's Breast' and 'Extended sarcophagi'.
NotesInformation from Clare Rowe: These are sketches towards the solo exhibition, 'Flint Sepulchre', Mead Gallery and Bury St Edmunds Art Gallery (1994). Some sketches refer to the Virgin's throne of the 'Sacra Conversazione' (Sacred Conversation) in Italian altarpiece paintings.
