DescriptionHardback black sketchbook dating from undergraduate course at University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, with the following inscription inside front cover "This book is dedicated to my dad who bought it (The book I mean) I owe dad £4". The sketchbook contains sketches, notes and designs towards three-dimensional canvases, constructions, loose canvases, hanging structures, propped and wedged canvases, construction techniques and materials, sculptures, painting techniques, freestanding structures, Keir Smith references J.M.W.T. (J.M.W Turner, 1775 - 1851) and various self-analytical notes/relationships/poems/titles. Imagery including pyramid motif (Keir Smith references "Chepren" [Egyptian pharaoh Chephren]), geometric shapes, classic architecture, scale figure and abstraction.
NotesInformation from Clare Rowe: Early designs for later grey constructed painting (won New Contemporaries Prize). Leaning canvases are considerations of the relationship between the wall and the ground. Influence includes Morris Lewis (1912 - 1962).
