Description | Hardback black sketchbook dating from Keir Smith's undergraduate course at University of Newcastle Upon Tyne containing extensive notes related to his studies. This includes notes towards painting constructions, narrative panels and 3rd Year project; silkscreens; Greek architecture; photographic collage; broken columns and blocks with sketches; perspectival references. Keir Smith also references mythological figures including Apollo and Daphne and images of Poseidon sea landscapes. Early Renaissance 'The Healing of Palladia by Sts Cosmus and Damian' also referenced. Works by artists Vincent Van Gogh (1853 - 1890), Giovanni Batista Foggini (1652 - 1725) and Jacob van Ruisdael (c. 1628 - 1682) noted. Site reference to Delos, Greece, with image. Emblems referring to suns, wheels, mountain lightning perspectival motif, landscape; romantic architecture and church ruins on cliffs appear. Keir Smith also references composers Joseph Haydn, Eugen Jochum [Berlin symphony superb 98] Vivaldi and Amadeus Mozart. Also noted: 'proper abstract experimental painting with images'. ". |
