TitlePhotographs of Trevor Tennant's sculpture, 1941 - 1950
Datec.1941-1950
DescriptionBlack and white photographs of Tennant's sculpture made between 1941 and 1950. The sculptures are figurative pieces, both abstract and semi-abstract, made in terracotta and bronze. Includes works which featured in the 'Sculpture in the Home' series of exhibitions run by the Arts Council.
NotesLike many other artists working in the post-war period, Tennant started to produce works on a much smaller, and affordable, scale. This was necessitated by a short supply in materials but also reflected the democratic ethos espoused by the Artists' International Association (AIA) that art should be for everyone, including those of modest means. To fulfil this ambition, the AIA held a 'Sculpture in the Home' exhibition in 1945 featuring smaller works. The Arts Council went on to run the exhibitions, touring them around the county. A number of Tennant's pieces were featured in these exhibitions.

Photographs of Tennant's sculpture were located throughout the collection, without a coherent sense of original order. This sub-series is an artificial gathering of photographs created to organise the images and make them more accessible.
