Title | Photographic postcards of Tennant's early sculpture |
Date | c.1930s |
Description | Photographic postcards of Tennant's early sculpture possibly created as a means of advertising his pieces. The majority of postcards are blank, though three are annotated on the reverse with the name of the piece and/or where the piece was exhibited. One postcard features a pencil sketch on the reverse of a female figure playing a musical instrument (/6). The sculptures are figurative pieces, some semi-abstract, in a variety of materials, including elm, yewtree and bronze. Identified pieces include 'Shouting Man' (/1), 'Male Torso' (/2-3), 'Venus' (/4) and 'Reclining Figure'(/5). |
Notes | 'Shouting Man' 'Venus' and 'Reclining Figure' featured in Tennant's exhibition at the Leger Gallery, London in 1934. 'Male Torso' was exhibition at Tennant's show at the French Gallery, London in 1933.
This represents an artificial file of photographs gathered together to enable better access to the large volume of sculpture photographs originally located throughout the collection. |
