Title	Photographs of sculptures exhibited at the Leicester Galleries, London in 1938

Description	Seventeen black and white photographs of sculptures which appeared in Tennant's solo exhibition at the Leicester Galleries, London in 1938. A number of photographs are annotated by Tennant with the title and material of the piece and/or Tennant's name and address. The sculptures are figurative pieces, some semi-abstract, in a variety of materials, including alabaster, elm, bronze, sycamore, terracotta, walnut and Portland stone. The pieces represented in the file include 'Torso' (/1), 'Kneeling figure' (/2-3), 'Millicent' (/4-6), 'Mother and Child' (/7-8), 'Interruption' (/9-10), 'Players' (/11-13), 'Listener' (/14-15), 'St Francis' (/16-17) and 'Woman' (18-19). The images of 'St Francis' show the piece in Tennant's studio. On the reverse of 'Mother and Child' Tennant notes that this is the wood carving to which 'The Times' critic refers in his review of the exhibition, describing the sculpture as Tennant's 'most successful piece'. A copy of the review has been placed in the file for reference (/20). The file does not include images of all the pieces exhibited at the Leicester Galleries.
Notes	'Woman' was later retitled 'Awakening' and included in the Artists' International Association (AIA) 'Sculpture in the Home' exhibition held at Heal & Son, London in October 1945. 'Mother and child' (alternatively titled 'Madonna and Child') appeared in Tennant's 1938 exhibition at the Leger Gallery, London in 1934. This represents an artificial file of photographs gathered together to enable better access to the large volume of sculpture photographs originally located throughout the collection.
