Description | Notebooks and sketchbooks predominantly related to the designing and making of pottery, including formulas for glazes, kiln reports, firing processes, clay recipes and pottery designs. Some of the later volumes contain notes related to the production of pottery for specific commissions, including Lloyds Bank and the Fleet Building. Few of the notebooks have been inscribed with a name, but their content suggests that the majority of volumes belonged to Annan. However, the handwriting is sometimes inconsistent and differs slightly to that found in other parts of the archive, making a definitive identification. The series of notebooks would be of particular value to those researching the history of artisan pottery, particularly the creation and testing of bespoke glazes. The series also contains a travel journal written in Tennant's hand, and two unnamed sketchbooks, possibly belonging to Annan. |
