Date | [1988] |
Description | Five unlabelled black and white photographs of ‘Pump’ in a [studio?] setting. The images show one half of a barbell mounted on a plinth; a mirror reflects the other half, giving the illusion of a complete barbell. Includes images of two different sized plinths: one low to the ground, the other at waist height. A semi-naked [Dye] appears in two of the images attempting to lift one of the barbells. Also includes an image of Dye in front of a mirror holding a dumbbell in on hand and taking a photograph of his flexed muscles. His face his obscured by the camera. |
Notes | Pump’ was first exhibited at the joint exhibition 'The Invisible Man', curated by Kate Love and Kate Smith at Goldsmiths Gallery, London in 1988. The work was remade for Dye's one-man show of installation and sculpture at The Showroom, London in 1990. |
