DescriptionLarge bundle of black and white photographs of works made at Corsham. The photographs have been divided into eight sub-sections (A-H) by the Stephen Cripps Trust and placed alongside handwritten notes giving contextual information about each set of images. Includes the following:

/1-6 Five photographs described as ‘A [circled] Steve's 'SPACE' in Sculpture School at Corsham 1972, including harmonium + Monkey'. The images show various works in Cripps’ studio space at Corsham.

/7-12 Four photographs described as ‘B [circled] Canteen Speakers, Car Horns, piece outside canteen on lawn, 72/3?, lots of speakers on wires spreadout, different soundtracks (Jacky operating).’ Two images show an intricate network of wires, car horn speakers and a central console erected in the [canteen?] at Corsham. Two further images show a network of speakers spread out on the lawn at Corsham with electrical equipment in the centre.

/13-16 Two photographs described as ‘C [circled] STRING TENT, A collaborative piece with Margy [Kinmonth] set up outside Sculpture School, the top bit made of SCRIM dipped in mud & tied to metal circles (a worm got included in the top)’. The images show a marquee like structure made from string.

/17-22 Five photographs described as 'D [circled] TOTEM Pole, including fox at top. Steve's fur coat cup up underneath. Chest of drawers as main base, squirrels in middles & TV screens going spoons on top; n.b. there must be more photos of this, it was an important piece'. The images show a totem-like structure made from domestic objects, including a television set, a chest of drawers, a stuffed squirrel in a display case and a stuffed and mounted fox’s head.

/23-32 Eight photographs described as 'E [circled] Hanging Drainpipes of paint, each one hung on string & the paint drips down, Corsham between 72-74'. The images show overlapping drainpipes - filled with paint - suspended at different heights from a scaffolding frame.

/33-35 Two photographs described as 'F [circled] Final Show Corsham 74, Magnetic Tape + pulleys + nets (Homage to Tinguely)'. The images show a large structure made from magnetic tape, scaffolding poles, [cymbals?] and [film cans].

/36-53 Seventeen photographs described as ‘G [circled] Automatic painting machine, with catapult + SPINDRYER PAINTING, between 72-74, (Steve lies on ground and leaves his silhouette in paint), John Pepper[?] in photos, the Work in progress + prototypes. + finished as well'. The images show a basic, catapult structure on wheels made from [scaffolding] poles and a bucket attached to a wooden plank. A figure lies spread-eagled beneath the structure as paint falls from the bucket. Includes images of the silhouette left by the falling paint on the cloth. Also includes images of the cloth ‘paintings’ hanging on a line in strips.

/54-90 Thirty-six photographs labelled, ‘H [circled] Steve's work at Corsham, misc. pieces produced throughout the years, Some may be in 2nd years show exhibition at Monks Park, Corsham, 72-74' and 'to be identified further, ask John Pepper [?], Richard Nye, Andrew Bailey, Ken Hughes, etc, Cross reference with Bath Academy of Art Slide collection'. The images include several unidentified works made by Cripps whilst a student; they include a work incorporating car horn speakers; a work made from feathers and twigs suspended from a mobile-like structure made from branches; and plastic bags filled with water suspended from a metal frame. Also includes two images of the clay work ‘We were made for each other’ /[55-56].

The majority of items are stamped on the reverse with the Cripps Trust Catalogue stamp and the number 37.
