TitlePhotographs of Cripps’ A-Level Art sculpture
Datec.1969
DescriptionNine black and white photographs of Cripps’ A-Level Art sculpture shown in the grounds of Cranleigh School, Surrey. The images show nine poles with beaten, metallic bird-like structures placed on top of each pole. Each photograph is marked on the reverse in pencil in an unknown hand, ‘Cartwright DIPI’. The reverse of /1 is also marked in a separate, unidentified hand, ‘Mobile, Cranleigh 1969’. The images were held in a folded sheet of A4 paper with photocopied images from Cripps’ performance work ‘Halo Lines’ (The Acme Gallery, London, August 1977) marked in an unidentified hand, ‘Mobile, Cranleigh 1969’.
NotesThe labelling on the photographs suggests that the work was made in 1969 and had the title ‘Mobile’. However, a contemporary review of the show in the ‘The Surrey Advertiser and County Times’ (dated July 1970) identifies the work as ‘Flight’.
