Description | Eighty-two drawings and sketches showing different permutations of a pole mounted wind vane attached to a wind sock. The majority are very rudimentary representations of each element with little detail. When shown, the wind vane and wind sock are oriented to the right. In some drawings the spinning movement of the wind sock is expressed through different graphic means, including ink splashes, ink smearing and lines. Includes three detailed drawings annotated by Cripps showing a ‘wind vane’ mounted on a ‘pole’ by means of a ‘counter balance’ and ‘central bearing’. A ‘(Spinning) wind sock’ fixed to ‘aluminium prop[eller] blades’ is shown attached to the wind vane via a ‘ball and socket bearing with restricted movement to avoid tangles’ [/1-3]. In some sketches the wind vane is shown attached to the pole by rope. Ten drawings show the upper part of the pole without any attachments [/4-11]; and three drawings appear to have been deliberately scorched along vertical lines [/12-14]. |
