DescriptionHardback black sketchbook dating from postgraduate course at Chelsea School of Art containing sketches, notes and designs towards wall constructions, constructions with physical tensions, hanging techniques, fixings, paintings, painting and printing techniques, canvases, various construction materials, pouring troughs, artist statement drafts and "capstone" works. Imagery including recurring geometric shapes, bridge forms, "V" shape constructions, pendulums, pouring troughs, suspended structures, Egyptian [?] hieroglyphics, minimalist constructions, wedges, concrete, frames and wedge shapes. Keir Smith's references include "Mayan Stalae" and "capstone".
NotesInformation from Clare Rowe: Postgraduate course was originally a Higher Diploma course and then became an Masters course during Keir Smith's study; Ian Stephenson invited the artist to continue for a further year. Clare Rowe notes several designs based on Japanese gateways and bridges. Also, notes influences by Richard Serra (1939) and Morris Louis (1912 - 1968).
