Title | Papers related to Tennant's play sculpture 'Gulliver' |
Date | 1958 |
Description | Small file of papers related to Tennant's play sculpture 'Gulliver' commissioned by London County Council. The file includes part of a typescript artists' statement for the piece (/1); a series of photographs of 'Gulliver' during its creation in situ (/2-7); black and white photographs of the completed work, including photographs of children playing on the sculpture (/8-10); a photograph of Tennant standing next to a child playing on the piece (/11); and press cuttings about 'Gulliver', including a cutting from 'The Times Education Supplement' (/12-14). Some of the photographs are annotated on the reverse by Tennant with limited contextual information about the work. |
Notes | The play sculpture in the shape of an abstract reclining figure is reminiscent of Henry Moore's abstract figures. It was built in reinforced concrete and placed in the St.Anne's neighbourhood of Limehouse in London. The commission was part of the post-war Patronage of the Arts Scheme run by the London County Council. |
