Title | Photographs of works by Dorothy Annan and Trevor Tennant |
Date | c. 1920s-1960s |
Description | Black and white photographs of works undertaken by Annan and Tennant throughout their careers. The series includes photographs of Annan's murals, including commissions undertaken as part of the Artists and Designers Group (Leamington Spa), as well as commissions for the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Works. Annan's Fleet Building commission is particularly well represented in the series. However, there are comparatively few photographs of Annan's pottery and domestic pieces sold by Heals and Sons Ltd. In addition, Annan's early career is not knowingly represented in the archive, although it is possible that some undated paintings could date from this era. The series also contains a large number of photographs related to Tennant's sculptural career, particularly his early work from 1930-1938. Photographs covering his post-war sculptural career, although present in the series, are not as well represented as those for his early career. This discrepancy may be a consequence of Tennant's later focus on architectural commissions, rather than exhibitions. |
Notes | The majority of photographs were located throughout the collection without a coherent sense of original order. An artificial arrangement has been made to organise the photographs and make them more accessible. The photographs have been divided into the following sub-series:
