Title | Photographs of untitled sculptures |
Date | c.1930s |
Description | Black and white photographs of untitled early sculpture by Tennant. Some of the photographs are annotated with Tennant's name and address and/or by whom it was sold. The sculptures are figurative pieces, mostly semi-abstract, in a variety of materials, including elm, yewtree, alabaster and terracotta. The annotations indicate that some of the pieces were sold by the French Gallery, suggesting that the file may contain photographs of works exhibited at Tennant's show at the French Gallery in 1933. The file includes two images of St Francis executed in terra-cotta, possibly a maquette for Tennant's larger carving in elm exhibited at the Leicester Galleries, London in 1938 (/1-2) mentioned. |
Notes | The exact dates of the photographs are unknown, but the sculptures share stylistic characteristics with those exhibited by Tennant during the 1930s and have been dated as such.
This represents an artificial file of photographs gathered together to enable better access to the large volume of sculpture photographs originally located throughout the collection. |
