TitlePhotographs of Dorothy Annan's murals and commissions
Date1942-1964
DescriptionBlack and white photographs of paintings, murals and commissions by Annan from the 1940s onwards. The series is particularly rich in photographs of Annan's murals commissioned by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Works, most notably the Fleet Building. Annan's work as a member of the Artists and Designers Group (Leamington Spa) is also well represented in the sub-series.
NotesA large proportion of the photographs are annotated with contextual information about the works. It is assumed that the majority of these annotations are by Annan. However, the style differs to that found in other parts of the archive and frequently resembles Tennant's handwriting. Where a definitive identification of the handwriting cannot be made, the name of the assumed author is placed in square brackets with a question mark. Nonetheless, where Annan is the assumed author, it is still possible that the annotations have been made by Tennant.
AccessConditionsA large proportion of the photographs are marked copyright stamps belonging to a publication, photographer or commissioning body. Where this is the case, the copyright remains with the relevant copyright holder, rather than the estate.
